Not My Finest Moment

Every school morning the teachers in my hallway stand outside and greet our students as they walk in the room. It gives us a great excuse to spend a few precious moments talking to adults before we shut ourselves in a room with little people for 6 hours.

At about 8:10 we have school announcements and this signals to wrap up our adult conversation and drag our feet in the classroom. This year we have a new staff member doing announcements and thankfully he is always upbeat and has something interesting to add to the otherwise dull announcements. Last Friday he went through the usual for lunch we are having...band members...student council...science fair...la-de-da. Then he closed by saying "Enjoy the Vernal Equinox".

To which I then turned to my fellow teachers and said very puzzled, "What the heck is Vernal Equinox. Did something happen to the moon?"

After they got back up off the floor laughing at me they kindly explained he just meant to enjoy the First Day of Spring!!

Well why didn't he just say that?
Hello. I teach elementary students...please use the appropriate language!

((Ummm you can stop laughing at me now!!))

  2. Ha! That sounds like something I would do-a simple "Happy Spring" would do!
