Aaahhh, Saturday!
What a week and boy oh boy am I glad that it is over.
This week was quite crazy with two days of DCAS Reading {our state testing program in Delaware}, a field trip, my district teacher of the year presentation {nope, didn't win}, a 31party, two days of gymnastics practice, and gymnastics pictures. No wonder I'm just waking up from a two hour nap!
The good news is that most of students did well on their state test. One day I'm just going to put it all out there about what I feel about this test, but I just don't have it in me right now. I was so proud of how well my students stuck with it though. This week we tackle two days of DCAS math and I'm hoping they show their smarts again!
After two days of testing the kiddos were ready for a field trip and we all had fun learning about Civil War times on Pea Patch Island. I must confess that history is not my thing, nor is wars for that matter, but I enjoyed the trip this year. It was a living experience and the actors reenacting were wonderful. I was completely engaged by Esau, an African American blacksmith. I wanted to bring him home with me! To get to the island you have to take a ferry which is an adventure in itself considering many of my students have never been on a boat! Thankfully we didn't have anybody fall in and everybody returned safe and sound with stories to share about their day. While field trips can definitely be planning nightmares, I love watching the kids learning outside of school. This teacher loves field trips too!
Right after the field trip I had my teacher of the year presentation. I definitely have a story to share about that, but it needs its own post. So I'm working on it, but need some more time before I hit publish. I can't wait to share with you, the two movies I made to share with the panel. Unfortunately, I didn't win, but I'm glad I was able to experience it. I don't think I will be putting my name on the ballot again, but happy that I had the opportunity this year. Not so sure I believe in the whole process, but the one thing I did enjoy was that it made me stop and look at all I've accomplished throughout my career and with my students. I do love my job and I am proud that my presentation represented that!
Then after a Friday 13th at school {enough said!} I raced back home to get ready for my thirty-one party last night. I'm not big on home shows and don't usually even attend them, but I was looking forward to just hanging out with some girlfriends for the night. I had stocked up on wine and had a chocolate fountain flowing when everybody arrived. It was so nice to just relax and decompress from the week. I had a great show and now have to tackle my wish list. I'm closing the show on Wednesday so if you haven't ever been to a thirty-one show and are curious, you can check out the catalog online and purchase your items right there. My favorite teacher gift is the lunch bag tote with a water bottle and a snack pack in it. You can even get the bag monogrammed for your child's teacher. So if you are looking for an end of the year gift be sure to check it out!
So that brings us to today. A gray, cloudy day. Perfect lazy day! We had gymnastics team pictures this morning and then the kids and I went to our local park for a festival this afternoon. We enjoyed some ice cream and strawberry shortcake along with a horse and carriage ride before walking back home. Then I enjoyed my two hour nap. Bliss. Tonight the laziness is continuing as we enjoyed leftovers from the party for dinner and I'm not planning on moving from my couch until I head to bed.
Tomorrow is the beginning of a new week.
A quieter week.
A less emotional week.
I'm so happy about that!
