Friday, right after school, the kids and I drove to Maryland to see my parents. The great thing with going there is that everybody else was coming to the beach while we were leaving so we didn't have any traffic! My brother, Dan, and his wife, Lizann, also came for a visit with my 3 mo. old niece. Oh my gosh she is getting so big!!
We got there just in time for dinner...crab dip and pizza. Yumm. That night we just kind of relaxed and I completely vegged out after completing the first week of school. It is always nice to go home!!
Saturday, my parents, the kids, Dan, Lizann, Sophia, and I grabbed some subs and headed to a state park for a picnic.
We ate lunch, played on a little playground, and the kids got in the river to wade a bit. Grandpa and Dylan skipped some stones while us girls watched from the steps.
When we got back to my parents the kids wanted to go swimming and grandma being the brave soul she is got in the freezing cold water with them. That night we enjoyed a bbq on the back deck and just relaxed together.
The sun was bright and beautiful on Sunday so we decided to go the Maryland State Fair.
I haven't been there in ages and we thought the kids would enjoy all the animals. We walked through all the barns and got some close ups with all kinds of animals, including cows, horses, baby chicks and lost of pigs. The kids even got to milk a cow. When I asked what it felt like, Zoe said "squishy" and Dylan said, "hairy." As my dad said, "Only in America would we pay money to milk a cow!"
Dylan enjoyed a turkey leg for lunch and we all loved our fresh milk shakes right from beside the cow barn.
The state fair is held at the fairgrounds so we also got to sit and watch a few horse races. The kids really got into it, although Dyl was not happy when his horse lost!!
This was a sign right outside the state fair that I thought was very fitting.
Originally I had planned on coming back earlier Sunday, but we were having so much fun we didn't get home till after 9 pm. Oh well, what are long weekends for, right??
Monday was relatively relaxing as the kids and I hit the beach for a couple hours. Although the riptides were rough and I had to rescue Dyl a couple of times. He kept saying "That was scariest time of my life!"
By the time we got home it was time to get back into the routine. I got my lessons planned for the week, a few loads of laundry done, dinner cooked, and the house picked up. The kids both took their baths and we enjoyed snuggling in bed for the rest of the night.
Now summer has officially ended!!
