Last Time I Try To Be Nice

As I sit here typing this I am reeking of gas. No not that kind of gas...the petroleum kind. Why do I smell like I just took a bath in fuel you ask? Well it all started with this idea of being nice...

After being in the sun the past couple of days the kids and I decided to stay home today. Since we were staying put I thought I may as well get some things done around the house. One of my to do things was to mow the grass for Dave. Mowing has been exclusively his job since the incident where I put a croquet ball through our NEW neighbors BRAND NEW fence...yes it would be a grand post, but I am trying to block it from my memory so this will be all you will here about THAT. I digress. So today I thought I would be nice to my hubby who has been working hard at work and mow the grass. We are also having company tomorrow and I thought it would be nice for them to not have to trek through the prairie lands to get in our house.

Out I went to start the tractor and be nice. I got through one side of our front yard and just started on the other side of the driveway when the tractor sputtered, coughed, and then died. Go figure it would run out of gas the one time I was mowing. Better yet when I went to grab the gas tank it was empty. So I put the kids in the car and off we went to the gas station where we find an empty pump and go to fill up the tank only to discover that the pump was broken. No problem. I walked around to the other side where the pump worked just fine and filled er up. We head home and this is where it continues to go down hill.

I didn't fill the tank up all the way because I knew I wouldn't be able to lift it to fill the tractor, but it was still pretty heavy when I got it home. I asked Dylan if he would help hold the bottom. As it was pouring in, Dylan said "Mommy it's leaking" and sure enough it was dripping off the bottom onto my foot. Just a drip here and there, no big deal, I only had to put in a little more. That is when it happened. The spout fell off and we took a shower in gas. All over the tractor, all over the grass, all over my arm, feet, and worse yet, my cute flip flops. Needless to say I was NOT happy. I mean that was probably about $20 worth of gas covering everything!! I rinsed off and stomped back to the tractor determined to get the lawn mowed.

As I finished the other side of the driveway I noticed that the mower was really hard to steer. As I looked down at the tires I soon realized why. One of the front tires was completely flat and pretty much falling off the rim. TERRIFIC. I drove it to the garage and then went on a search within the depths of my husbands mess, otherwise known as a workbench to find the thingy-ma-jig to hook up on the air compressor to pump up the tire. After about 15 minutes I found it. I plugged everything together, went to pump up the tire, and discovered that the stem was not sticking out from the tire. As I was further inspecting the tire I noticed that there was a huge hole in the side. It wasn't going to matter if I did find a way to pump it up because that tire was not holding any air.

I finally admitted it. I was defeated. Seeing how I don't like to be defeated especially by a tractor I immediately texted my husband with some very choice words that I will not be repeating on my rated G blog. I will share that I happily informed him that I would be having margaritas for dinner...oh and that we most definitely would need to get a tractor tire in the very near future.

Who would have thought that being nice would be so exhausting? I'm off to take a nap now.

  1. Ugh It seems you are dealing with murphys law today. Just think statistically you have a really good chance tomorrow will be better! Just don't have to many drinks or it might not be better:)

  2. Margarita's for dinner sounds like a lovely idea. Sorry to hear of misfortune today. I hope you enjoyed the Nap - I so could use one!

  3. Wow that is a bad day and the smell of gas I can relate. I keep garden gloves in my car to wear when I pump gas.

Since it is just me and two kids I got one of those push mowers at Sears, figured it would be good exercise for me and the teenaged son.

Hope your Friday is a happy ending to the week.

  5. Being nice is way overrated! Whenever I am nice, it always comes back to slap me in the face. Whoever heard of Karma...does it even exist?

  6. I can just picture all of this taking place! Hope the margaritta helped ease the pain! LOL

  7. I would have quit when the mower started sputtering. You made it much farther than I would have gone!!
I decided to do something similar the other day with the weed-eater. Except I was in flip flops (so not a good idea!) and weed-whacked my foot! Worse than child-birth. Seriously!!

  9. Apparently you were NOT supposed to mow the lawn today. Unbelievable!

  10. Clearly it was a day to stay inside and eat chocolate. That'll teach you the next time you get the idea to do something. :)

  13. Sounds like the phrase "No good deed goes unpunished" applies perfectly to your day.

  14. Good luck with the rest of your day!

And believe me...I know all about mowing. Since hubby had his surgery, I have been doing the grass cutting. He yells that I should pick up the dog poop and toys, but hell no. I run everything right over. Poop flying, balls chewed up, whatever is in my way is mowed down!

  16. It's times like that that I'm pretty glad that I'm very allergic to grass and can't tolerate cutting it. I'd be a swollen up, sneezing, wheezing fool--with the broken down tractor, and many choice words. I do hope you enjoy hubby's day off tomorrow!

  17. ...and why do you think I stopped mowing and started paying!!! Want the name of my guy? ...or I know where there's a keyless mower sittin' in a garage. Wish I could be there for crabs tonight, but work won't stand for it. See you tomorrow. Love, Aunt Steph

  20. I just have to tell you that I am impressed... first, that you took this on as a chore... second, that you didn't just quit when it ran out of gas... and third, that you didn't just light it on fire after the gas spilled....

I would have probably been frustrated enough to just lite the fires and burn the tires...

  21. I have to give you a lot of credit. I don't even attempt to mow and if I did, I'm sure it would end up like this! Dave must really appreciate your efforts as a wife! :)

  22. yeah, that's why I rarely bother to be nice.....just bites ya in the @%#&!! HA! HA! J.K.!!!!!

  23. You are so brave! I would've been discouraged at the mere task of cranking it! My husband does all the mowing. I've tried but it's usually complicated (the deck is too low, it needs gas, etc). Me mowing would be kind of like DH trying to write thank-you notes.
