My district has a two hour delay...Normally this would make me ecstatic, today not so much. Why you ask? Two extra hours of sleep, shouldn't that make everbody happy. Well I got the call and heard the radio announcement as I was getting OUT of the shower. One thing about me is that once I shower and do my hair I cannot get back in bed with wet hair. Oh well I decided to get up and obviously I am here blogging, plus got some more Board's finished.
The two hour delay affects much more though. First of all my class was supposed to particapte in a science investigation that requires tracing shadows first thing in the morning, at lunch time, and then before dismissal. Without gathering morning data this isn't happening. Oh and did I mention this is lesson that I needed to have the students complete in order to have tomorrow's lesson video taped for my Board's.
Next, I have spent the past three days frantically planning a field trip. While planning, I came to the realization that this is a big no-no in the district and that field trips require a 30 day notification. I really did not even consider procedures as I planned a field trip for my students to go visit a local nursing home to deliver Valentine's Cards and read to residents. God must have like my trip though because everything pretty much fell into place, with only minor panic moments on my part. However, our field trip is today from 9:30 - 10:30. This is going to be hard to make considering school does not even open until 9:50. Guess our field trip won't be happening! Now I am back to square one with getting buses and choosing another date. Did I mention also that because of the delay I will also not get my planning period either??!!
Finally, tomorrow is the day I am supposed to be video taped for the last lesson I need to complete for my Board's. The forecast for tonight includes sleet, freezing rain, and some wet snow leaving the roads slippery for tomorrow morning too. Of course my taping was supposed to be in the morning too. That has now been rescheduled for next week. Fun, Fun!!!
If there is one thing that every teacher has to have it would have to be flexibility and the ability to smile and share hugs with kids as they are stressed out on the inside!!!
That is a bumpy morning!! I hope even with the crazed beginning that things even out and fall into place for you.
ReplyDeleteYour day sounds like the day from you know where! I know the panic that sets in when you HAVE to do something with the kids and can't get to it.. those darn snow days can be heck or freedom...! I'm wearing my pj's backward tonight for tomorrow - sleet, freezing rain, snow.. sounds like I'll be good for a 3 day weekend!!
ReplyDeleteHang in there - you'll survive!
