So I'm a Little Crazy

The last time I've been out for a run was in Key West. Yeah that would be over a week and half and I only got in 2 miles because I thought I was going to die!

I had planned on running a 5K in Baltimore today, but I couldn't get the logistics figured out with the kids and being there so early in the morning. I was bummed because one of my twitter friends was going to come cheer me on and we were going to do brunch/lunch. Honestly, I was much more upset about not meeting her than not being able to run the race...although I'm sure you all figured that one.

Anyways, when I was reading through this weeks local paper I saw they were having a race in my local town to support this years 4th of July parade. They are hoping to make this race an annual run and was trying to drum up as much support as they could. I started thinking maybe I should do it so I called my running buddy, Lynette, and asked her if she was in and we decided to run together.

So yesterday morning, I ran another 5K

and it kicked my butt!
In all my races, all three of them, I had never considered quitting like I contemplated during this race. My legs were sore, my knee hurting, it was hot as hades, and I just wasn't feeling it. But, I'm not a quitter and told myself so with every step. I kept on running, albeit it slowly, the whole race.

This is me running to the finish line. Notice the eyes closed as I am just praying that I don't fall face down across the finish line.

Notice also there is no great picture of me and the time clock.
That would be because my time was awful...over 44 minutes.

Note to self: Must keep up running skills! Do not enter 5K without training in over three weeks.

While I didn't beat my previous race times I am still proud that I knew I could do it and finished the race running. I mean, just 6 months ago I couldn't run for 5 seconds and now I'm running a 5K. Gotta give credit where credit is due, right?

I kind of feel like this was my way to end the Weight Watchers Walk-It Challenge. It was awesome to be featured on Weight Watchers Online and be a part of the Walk-It Challenge. I was so excited to get an email at the end of the challenge with this news...
"We are excited to announce that 88,112 Weight Watchers members participated in the Momentum Walk-It Challenge this spring by either taking part in existing walking teams or by creating their own." Over 88,000 people!! That is a whole bunch of people out there walking.

Now that the challenge is over, I hope everybody keeps on walking. I know I've been slacking lately and my race time shows that it's time to get running regularly again. I would love to be able to run a 5K in less than 35 minutes by the end of the year. That would be awesome!!

Do you have a walking/running goal? Remember to start small so you can feel the success of completing a goal. If you are a walker challenge yourself to run intervals in your walks, if you are a runner, try to run further or faster. You can do it!!

  5. I know exactly how this feels. I applaud you for pushing through the pain and finishing. How long it takes does not matter...only reaching the goal! :-)

  6. I ran for the first time in about 2weeks this morning on the trail. Didn't make it very far running before I had to stop. Did my normal 2 1/2 miles but it took me about 42 min. NOT good! I'm taking my stuff and hoping to do 1 or 2 beach runs while I'm away -- if the GA and FL heat doesn't kill me!
