The Second First Day of School

Most of you are probably reading this from the quiet of your home. At least, those of you with school age kids have sent them off on the bright, yellow bus or dropped them off to resume your regularly scheduled days.

Me?
I'm right back in school with them.

One of my favorite things about being a teacher is I get to have two New Years. The back to school new year and then the January 1st New Years.

Going back to school after winter break is always tough though, honestly it's probably right up there with going back after summer vacation. Actually now that I think about it summer vacation is easier because I'm pretty ready to get back to school in August. Going back today? Yeah. Not nearly as ready?

But ready or not.

Despite not being 100% ready, I'm looking forward to starting fresh again.
I've missed my students and can't wait to hear their holiday stories. Some are sure to be quite exaggerated and I love those best of all. We got some new math books right before we left for Christmas break and I'm excited to learn about the new program and using it to teach my 5th graders. Add that with all the reading, writing, science, and social studies material we need to cover and we should be quite busy for the next few months.

There's a lot to be taught and learned in the next 98 days. You know, before it's time for spring vacation!!
Not that anybody's counting or anything :-)
