Proof I'm Saving the World

I finally did it.
I went grocery shopping and remembered the reusable bags.

This was the first time I went grocery shopping with the bags I've been collecting. The room that was in the bags was amazing. At least three plastic bags of groceries fit into one reusable bag. This made me very happy because I loathe unloading groceries from the car, lugging all the bags in. I was a couple bags short and had to resort to a few plastic bags although I do reuse them for my recyclables and the cat litter so I didn't feel too guilty. I will be keeping an eye out for some more bags though.

Just doing my part to save the world!

  1. YAY for you! I always feel better when I remember my bags too. I have 8 or 9 now (hard to remember) and love having them. My store still gives me credit for bringing them and I think I've managed to pay for the bags now. I hear that eventually they'll start charging for using the store's bags (they already do, it's in the cost of the groceries, but soon it will be even more.) And I like that they hold more. I just have to remind the baggers that I HAVE to carry these bags and loading one with every can I've bought isn't a good idea. LOL

  2. Yay! Glad you enjoyed using them :) That's what I love about them too - fewer bags/more room in each bag... and also how they 'hold their shapes up' better, so it's easier to pack! They started to charge for the plastic bags in Canada, so I'm glad I got used to it in time!

  3. Good for you! Forgetting them has been my problem in the past too. I got a Chico Vita bag (www.chicobag.com) recently that has really helped me out since it has a clip and fits easily in my purse. And it holds a ton! I went to the grocery store and fit my whole week of groceries in one bag. If you're looking to buy a few more, I'd definitely recommend them. And I just saw this blog post

and decided to order a few more through their co-op - just thought I'd pass it on in case you or anyone else is interested.

  4. I love the reusable bags too. It is so nice to have less to carry. I also like that they stand up in the back of the car instead of drooping all over and sliding around.

  5. your collection of bags looks a lot like mine :) i've got bags from all sorts of places and they do do a great job! my biggest challenge is remembering to take them with me but i'm getting better at it. i always try to keep at least one or two in the car for those quick stops.

good job saving the world - see, us moms really are super heroes! :)

  6. I totally want to do this.

However, I have a few questions....

First. When I go grocery shopping I have an overloaded cart. Like falling out. How many bags you think I would need?

Second. I use those plastic bags for the bathroom can. And the guinea pig. And anything else smelly and disgusting that I need to get rid of fast.
What will I use then? Buy those small trash bags? And if so, won't it be the same as if I used them to carry my groceries home in plastic and reused the bag?

If you haven't noticed, I am way over thinking this thing :)
But still wondering what you thought :)

  7. I have a collection of reusable bags. I love them and use them for everything. We have a system now for the grocery store. When we are done unpacking them the bags go to the door and are put back in the car. Of course, I often forget to take them into places like Target and other retail stores when I need them. With grocery shopping I use them and love them.

  8. PROOF, that I am still reading you everyday ... although not commenting on a regular basis - and definitely not keeping up with my blog. BUT, thanks for this post - read it right before I went to the store, went all over the house and collected all of my reusables and actually USED THEM for groceries!! WOO HOO!! I know you are on the final school countdown - good luck!!!
