Just What I Needed

Mother's Day started off with hubby making me this...

and while I enjoyed breakfast the kids gave me these...

Then I did do some dishes, laundry, and cleaned the bathroom, but I didn't really mind.

After my breakfast settled, I put on my shoes and enjoyed the absolutely beautiful morning by doing this...

I was just 8 seconds away from running a 5K in under 40 minutes! Considering I started at a 5K taking me about 48 minutes, I'm pretty happy with this. I am determined to get into the 30's this week. My ultimate goal would be to run a 5K in less than 30 minutes.

The afternoon was then spent with the Dave, the kids, and me. One of my favorite ways to spend Sundays since they are the only day we are all home together. We first visited a new park, where Dylan tackled a rock wall and a very tall rope.

Zoe went for something a little less strenuous and enjoyed the huge slide that was there.

Before we left Daddy was nice enough to take a picture of me with the kids. You know, as a reminder of the reason I even get to celebrate today.

I did try to sneak in some shopping as I'm on the hunt for some new workout clothes, but I didn't have much luck. I found the cutest Maxi style dress and a purse at Marshall's but ended up passing on them in my effort to save some cash. Hubby did buy me a new Ipod armband that is specially made for my Nike+ though, which has been on my wish list for the past few weeks as the cheap one I have just wasn't cutting it for me. He found it half off Nike's price...Woohoo!!!

A Mother's Day tradition that we have is to go out for all you can eat crabs. Steamed Blue Crabs is my absolute favorite dinner and Mother's Day always signals the beginning of the season. I thought we were going to bypass this year since crabs aren't cheap and were not in our budget, but Dave surprised me as he had been saving to treat me. We went to Hooper's in Ocean City, MD where we sat on a deck looking over the river and enjoyed dozens of steamed crabs with corn on the cob, oh yeah and hush puppies and a margarita too. Perfect Mother's Day dinner!!

After dinner, we all agreed that we were stuffed and decided a walk on the beach was what we needed. We headed back to our beach and took a stroll on the sand, well the kids took strolls in the wave pools that had formed on the beach.

We found some Horseshoe Crabs on the beach, which beckoned to Dylan to pick them up. He happily obliged at you can see.

After our walk, the kids thought an ice cream would be the perfect way to end the day. Dave and I were Weight Watchers "good" since we had eaten so much at dinner and bypassed the ice cream. Although I do confess we had a lick here and there. You know it is a mom's responsibility to make sure the ice cream doesn't drip down the cone and since it is Mother's Day and all I thought I should do my part.

We then came home and finished the night folding laundry and taking baths. Now as I sit here in the quiet, reflecting on today, I realize that it was a pretty perfect Mother's Day. It was exactly what I needed. Lately I have found myself becoming a person I don't like to be, worrying, stressing, pessimistic, and downright depressing. I needed to take a step back to see how blessed I am. I have two beautiful, smart, funny, and above all, HEALTHY kids. They love me no matter what. Not to mention I'm married to my best friend who goes out of his way to make sure I have a relaxing Mother's Day. When all is said and done, I'm a pretty lucky girl!!
